Administrative Law
Administrative law is concerned with the law and practice governing public programs. In helping our clients, we address a broad range of matters such as the fairness of administrative procedures, the exercise of discretion, and the adequacy of facts before administrative tribunals to make decisions about your case.

Many of the public programs that involve administrative law are administered under the authority of a statute, and each program is administered by a specialized branch or tribunal in Newfoundland and Labrador. For example, the standards of employment in the province are specified in the Labour Standards Act and are administered by the Labour Standards Board. Similarly, labour relations in the province are outlined in the Labour Relations Act and are administered by the Labour Relations Board. Health and safety standards and the compensation of workers who are injured while on the job, or those who suffer a disability, are also the subject of specific legislation.

When you have a legal issue involving a public board or commission, you will likely encounter administrative law principles. If you have a matter involving one of the following Boards or Commissions, the knowledge and skill of our team members may be of benefit to you:
  • Labour Standards Board
  • Labour Relations Board
  • Human Rights Commission
  • Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission<
  • Liquor Licensing Board
  • Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Public Complaints Commission
  • Royal Canadian Mounted Police Public Complaints Commission
